Nolan Ryan sits atop the MLB record books with an astounding 5714 strikeouts over 27 seasons.
Randy Johnson, who retired after the 2009 season with 4875, is in a distant second place.
Currently, the closest active baseball player is Jamie Moyer with 2342, but he is nearing the end of his career with no chance of throwing another 3000 strikeouts, so Nolan Ryan should be safe for some time.
